A Date with History: The Bay From Above, 75 Years of Change

The Denton Extended Museum and Hill Research Center 25 S. Washington Street, Easton, MD, United States

Aerial Photographer Hunter H. Harris, using a dual projection system, will present a series of dramatic oblique aerial photographs showing changes in the local landscape over the past 75 years. These oblique aerial photographs chronicle, in a very unique way, the history of the area including the towns, the rivers and their watersheds. “Many of the changes that I discovered while creating this series were not what I expected! These aerials really show us how we have changed our landscape forever from an unusual viewpoint”.   This lecture is presented in conjunction with “The Bay from Above” Exhibit at the Talbot Historical Society. The exhibit is on loan from the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and presents mid 1900s aerial photographs of the Chesapeake Bay by photographer H. Robins Hollyday and compares them with aerial photographic images of the exact same locations taken by our presenter, Hunter Harris.   Reservations are required and the cost is. Frederick Douglass Day Celebration

The Frederick Douglass Honor Society will host Frederick Douglass Day on Saturday, September 24th! The all day event kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade starting on Glenwood Avenue and ending at the Talbot County Courthouse. Immediately following the parade, the Frederick Douglass Welcome Ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m on the front lawn of the Court House near the Frederick Douglass Statue. Brenda Wooden, the President of the Frederick Douglass Honor Society, will provide a welcoming message. There will also be a live reading of Frederick Douglass' speeches, music, reading of a poem, and comments from local elected officials. Be sure to visit the Talbot County Free Library for two book signings and a fascinating discussion with Dr. Robert Levine! Celebrate an important figure in our history on this exciting day!

The Chesapeake Film Festival returns to Easton! The festival offers everyone a chance to watch exceptional independent films and to immerse themselves in stories from all walks of life. Outstanding filmmakers, experienced and emerging, will have a forum to showcase and discuss tales of compelling interest to our local and global community. The in person festival will take place from September 30th through October 2nd. The virtual will take place from October 3rd to October 9th.

Beth McDonald is a jazz vocalist in the classic sense—in love with melody, the great standards, and the charm of another era. She is also a contemporary singer/songwriter, writing and performing to our shared experiences, our emotions and our stories. Joe Holt is a jazz pianist who shares a love of the great traditions, known for creative spontaneity and a love of performing. In “A Century of Song,” Beth and Joe will take the audience on a trip back to the 1920s, traveling all the way through today, combining original compositions and classic gems and weaving a unique musical melding of classic and contemporary, joys and sorrows, soul searching and carefree romping.
