COVID-19 didn’t stop the Talbot County Department of Social Services from thanking its foster (resource) and adoptive parents at its annual “Thanks for Giving” event. Although the actual public event could not be held, foster families were able to drive by and pick up a traditional Thanksgiving meal from the Department. The meal, prepared by the Chesapeake Culinary Center, included salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, turkey, ham, stuffing, and cookies. Families also received a Thanksgiving-themed activity to do together and another craft for the upcoming holiday season.
Over 60 percent of children in foster care on the Mid Shore are ages 14 and older. Foster parents are needed for sibling groups and children with special needs. Talbot County needs foster parents to provide temporary, safe, stable, and nurturing homes for children to live until they can be reunited with their own families, placed with relatives, or adopted.
