A question we often hear is: What is happening with Easton Point and Port Street?  So here is an update on the project.

The EEDC continues to work closely with the Town of Easton on redeveloping Port Street and Easton Point.  Throughout 2020, you can expect to see additional land from Easton Point annexed into the Town, the completion of the Rails to Trails, new market-rate and affordable housing units in the planning and construction stages for the Port Street corridor, and additional community engagement around the anticipated public access infrastructure investments, including the future of the existing boat ramp.

The second most asked question is, “Why is it taking so long?”

In answer to this question, we would argue that this is taking precisely the length of time that we expected. When this project was envisioned, we projected a 15-20-year implementation period.  We are now in year six of this project, and many accomplishments have been achieved:

• The Master Plan, created with input from thousands of citizens, was translated into a regulatory overlay by the Planning Commission and approved by the Town Council.
• The first round of property was annexed into the Town of Easton. This included the Easton Point portion of Port Street, the ownership of which was transferred to the Town by the County.
• The County has begun a public engagement process to determine the fate of 925 Port Street, an important historical building that has been neglected for over a decade.
• Evergreen announced an ambitious plan to construct a boathouse on their property.
• Londonderry completed the sale of the remaining lots.
• BAAM has completed its gymnasium and has additional neighborhood investments in the works.
• Habitat for Humanity has completed several new construction homes on Port Street, providing affordable homeownership to its community.
• The American Legion Blake-Blackston Post #77 announced their expansion.
• Talbot Housing Commission will break ground imminently on nine net-zero homes at Port and West Streets.
