On Tuesday, February 25th, Easton Economic Development Corp and Chesapeake Harvest hosted a dinner meeting designed to update farmers, restaurant and catering owners, retail buyers, and community leaders on Chesapeake Harvest programs. There was also an overview and wrap up of the USDA Local Food Promotion Program Grant (LFPP).
The meeting was held at Temple B’Nai Israel in Easton, thanks to Executive Director, Lori Ramsey and Rabbi Peter Hyman. Catered by Blue Heron, the meal used fresh, local in-season produce from Priappi Gardens, Tuckahoe Creek Farms, and First Greens. The meat was from Roseda Farms in Maryland.
Also discussed were sales, marketing, and food safety outcomes and challenges in the local food economy. Chesapeake Harvest’s various accomplishments through the past year were highlighted, including the $108,676 in direct sales. The focus on the Food Safety Program also meant that eighty-nine producers expanded their knowledge on how to sell produce in a wholesale market.
