Swamp Donkey prides themselves on a big sound that you will likely not hear anywhere else!   Stretching the “grass” concept to the limit and offering a unique sound in the process, the Annapolis/Baltimore-based electric newgrass band delivers an exciting combination of original songs and unique covers that span many genres in a style they have made all their own.  The band takes an intense and creative approach to their live performance that is riddled with surprises, mesh-ups, and lots of energy! Each year the Avalon Foundation brings Shaw's Amusements Carnival to the Town of Easton as part of its July 4th celebration! The celebration offers nine days to enjoy the carnival and culminates on the 4th of July with food, free fireworks and live music. The carnival is open from 6 to 10 p.m. daily and  from 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday, July 4.  The carnival is beside Waterside Village Shopping Center near Target, between the Easton Parkway and St. Michaels Road. $5 off wristband coupons available Avalon Theatre Lobby. Wristbands are available every night, with the exception of July 4th!

With Easton’s historic Waterfowl Building again remade with concert staging and lighting and a crystal- clear audio system, music lovers can enjoy some of the world’s finest jazz musicians in three shows as Jazz Alive renews it summer concert series! The first concert in this grand series will feature Larry McKenna, known globally for his gorgeous tenor saxophone sound, the beauty of his balladry, and his fluid, bebop-inspired improvisations.   Over the years, Larry has performed and recorded with such jazz stars as Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Buddy DeFranco, Barry Harris, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Jimmy Heath, Jon Faddis, Harry Allen, Terell Stafford, Eric Alexander, Bill Charlap, Warren Vaché, Kenny Barron, Randy Brecker, Wynton Marsalis, and Frank Sinatra. Joining Larry will be Tom Lawton on piano, Kevin MacConnell on bass and Dan Monaghan on drums.   The Waterfowl Building is at 40 South Harrison Street in Easton, Maryland.  Tickets are $48 and available at jazz-alive.org or at the door the day of the event. Students attend free with a Student ID. A cash bar will be available. Proceeds from ticket and concession sales support Jazz Alive’s mission of providing educational support in developing future artists and preserving this great art form through school and community programs.

Let’s face it…We need the funk now more than ever, and the Clones of Funk are just the ones to deliver it! Founder Wesley Beann first conceived the funk tribute in 1989 as a reunion of fans and musicians dedicated to the music of Parliament and Funkadelic.  After George “Dr. Funkenstein” Clinton himself gave his blessing a year later, this eight-piece funk band—comprised of vocalists and a slammin’ rhythm section—has gone on to play various venues, including college functions and clubs from New York City to Virginia.   You can find Clones of Funk performing on Harrison Street between Dover and Goldsborough Streets.

Jazz is truly America’s music and the Commodores, the Navy’s premier jazz ensemble, have been performing the very best of Big Band jazz for the Navy and the nation for 50 years. Formed in 1969, this 18-member group continues the Big Band legacy with some of the finest musicians in the world, held in high regard nationwide by concert patrons and critics alike.   You can find the Commodores playing on Harrison Street between Dover and Goldsborough Streets.

Mitchell Northam will be speaking on his new book “High School Basketball on Maryland’s Eastern Shore: A Shore Hoops History”. From Kent County down to Pocomoke City, the Eastern Shore of Maryland has a deep history of successful coaches, talented players and championship-winning teams. Explore nearly a century’s worth of games and seasons as the region has fought for respect on the hardwood. Dive deep into teams like the 1952 tourist town boys from Ocean City and the great squads of Moton High School, and players like Stephen Decatur’s Keve Aluma, an All-ACC selection at Virginia Tech. Using extensive research and dozens of original interviews, Shore native and sportswriter Mitchell Northam chronicles the Women’s Professional Basketball League days of Gail Tatterson Gladding, the rise and fall of Carlton Dotson, and the careers of basketball lifers like Butch Waller and Tia Jackson.   Mitchell Northam grew up on the Eastern Shore in Federalsburg and graduated from Colonel Richardson High School, Wor-Wic Community College, and Salisbury University. His career in journalism began at the Delmarva Daily Times in Salisbury, and he now works at WUNC — the NPR affiliate in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His work has also been featured at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, NCAA.com, the Orlando Sentinel, the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, and Pittsburgh Sports Now. He is a member of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association and a voter in the AP Top 25 Poll for women’s college basketball. Join us for the kick off of the 18th Annual Plein Air Easton Competition and Arts Festival with a Block Party & Gallery Walk on July 15th.  Downtown Easton shops will be open 5pm to 8pm with live music performances all around downtown. Join Talbot Historical Society for an hour historic walking tours of beautiful downtown Easton! The first tour starts at 11am The tour guide will take you to various buildings within the historic district of downtown and explain the importance of the buildings in Easton’s history. The second tour starts at 12pm (noon) The tour guide, Mike Olmert, will take you to other historic buildings in downtown Easton and will explain the history of the architecture of those buildings.
