Volunteers Needed for COVID-19 Food Distribution Efforts in Talbot County

Despite returning to a new level of normalcy in our lives as we deal with COVID-19, there is still an ongoing need for food assistance throughout our communities in Talbot County. As many people have returned to work, there is also a need for volunteers to help with current food distribution efforts.

Employees from Easton Utilities answered the call for volunteers and organized 10 of their staff to assist with the food distribution on August 21 at a pop-up pantry at Talbot County Business Center. These volunteers joined Talbot County Emergency Operations, Talbot Local Care Team, Maryland Food Bank, and CarePacks to serve 151 families (479 individuals).  Gay’s Seafood of Easton also generously donated the use of a refrigerated truck for the distribution.

Easton Utilities participates in the weekly call for the Talbot County Emergency Operations Committee and learned of the need for volunteers.  “As a continued display of our commitment to this community, we were proud to help serve our neighbors and realized how rewarding this experience can be,” stated Vicki L. Petro, Director of Human Resources for Easton Utilities.

According to Jan Willis, Coordinator of the Local Care Team for Talbot County, who managed the Emergency Operations Center Feeding Task Force, there is currently a need for both individual and group volunteers. She states, “If you have an organization or group that would like to volunteer at a food distribution event, we need your help. We continue to have pop-up drive-through events throughout the County. Individuals should be able to lift 25 pounds.”
