Economic News: Can a Guaranteed $500 a Month Impact Lives?

A jittery stock market, trade war impacts, record unemployment, income inequality, and another predicted cut in the interest rates by the Feds: the economic news is challenging our world views and encouraging out of the box thinking. There is nothing more out of the box than the concept of a universal basic income. And, thanks to the Economic Security Project, some preliminary data is in on an experiment to provide 125 residents in Stockton, California an unconditional $500-a-month payment since February. Preliminary findings? Participants have made rational choices, paying down hospital bills, repairing cars, and dropping second jobs in favor of attending a child’s sports games. See article here.
