Lynn Thomas, Town of Easton Planner, Update:  Zoning Ordinance Meeting

The Easton Planning and Zoning Commission is nearing completion of their work to review and comprehensively update the Town of Easton’s primary land use regulatory tool, the Zoning Ordinance.  They have one final workshop meeting on the subject as part of their regular monthly meeting on March 18, 2021.  Subsequently, the Planning and Zoning staff will make one final set of revisions before making the document available for general public review and comment, culminating with a Public Hearing scheduled for the evening of April 13, 2021, at 6:00 pm.   A copy of the DRAFT document will be posted on the Town’s website as soon as the final edits are made following the March 18th Workshop.  There will also be a summary of the most significant proposed changes and a list of questions that the Commission would particularly like to receive input on at or prior to the Public Hearing.

While there are changes throughout the Zoning Ordinance, perhaps the most significant are: (1) an extensively revised Planned Unit Development Article in which the PUD process is proposed to change from the “one-size-fits-all” style that exists today to different regulations specific to specific development scenarios (e.g., redevelopment vs. green field development); (2) a completely updated set of Sign Regulations; and (3) the introduction of Middle Housing Unit Types, intended to facilitate more housing infill and redevelopment, especially in and around the Downtown.
